A Mothers Hope

I came across this video on the story-monster blog by Heather Dixon  she worked on this animated short which tells the real life story of a women fleeing from the eastern front during WWII.  While I secretly hope I never have an experience like this, it is a wonderfully inspiring film. Enjoy!

The Narrow

Hiking Trip to Zion National Park

I was going a little bonkers in Provo this week so I tagged along with my roommate Katie to Zion's National Park.

We Hiked the narrows which unbeknownst to me is 90% hiking in water! But all was well because never fear I Had my nifty Nike shorts in my suit case and after a quick strip down behind a car door in the parking lot I was ready for a water adventure!

The Narrows is a sixteen mile hike following a river up the canyon. However we only went a mile in because we were hiking with Katie's brother and his family (which includes 4 adorable children) The hike was definitely doable. Fair warning though it gets harder the further up the river you go.

Definitely easy to get side-tracked with by the scenery!

Can't wait to go back and hike further in sometime.

Hey everybody it's Mothers Day! Yay! *cheers loudly* In honor of such a significant occasion I'm posting for the first time in ..... ugh six months (oops).  So..... six months a lot has happened.  Quick Highlights:

  1. I survived a busy and character building semester at BYU
  2. I passed all my classes :)
  3. I went to Disneyland for a last hurrah with my Gals before we disperse across the globe or get married.
  4. And last but definitely not least I got my mission call!

Lets go back to Disneyland aka Happiest Place on Earth. My 5 roommates and I rushed to California the minute finals were over to celebrate our then pending mission calls and future weddings.

Katie and I chillin with Minnie

Rachel and I on the tram
Anne will be the first to leave the sisterhood because she's getting married!

What will the rest of us be doing? Well Katie, Rachel, Emily and I will all be going on MISSIONS!!!!  Katie was the last of us to receive her call, which came on Wednesday. So drum roll ......... here's where were all going:

Me                Bangkok, Thailand

Emily             Tokyo,  Japan

Rachel
            Asuncion, Paraguay

Katie            San Pedra, Honduras

Basically were taking over the world ... or at least Asia and South America. So yes this blog we'll slowly become a mission blog..... as that will be my life for the next 21 months.  Any post not relating to my mission will probably be about Thailand because its my favorite place on Earth and I get to go back! So consider my blog revived :)

The Question I Hate: a over-thought rant

The question I hate:  “What are you looking for in a guy?”

What I am looking for in a guy: Someone who will take me on adventures. When I was younger (and more shallow) this strictly meant traveling and seeing the world but, as I’ve learned, life is an adventure on its own. I want someone who will stick by me through deaths in the family and future illnesses. Someone willing to have children with me and embark on the scary/trying journey of protecting educating and loving them. I want someone willing to do crazy things and make the normal things, like watching a movie or doing the dishes, exciting. someone who will grow with me, forgive me, and love me. I want someone who wants these things from me.

How do you tell your well meaning neighbor or girlfriend “this is what I’m looking for!” “Set me up with him.” You can’t! You cant determine these things from a first, second, or third date. (Okay, to be fair you can easily determine for some that this is not a possibility or a relative probability) It takes time to find and figure out who's the "one". That is why I hate the question “What are you looking for in a guy?” it tries to squish something intense, important, and complicated into a quick-fix solution. Your life should not be determined by check list of unimportant things such as hair color, height, favorite movie etc. A committed relationship with someone shouldn't be determined by something that changes.
